New Moto Morini 9 1/2 launched in U.K.,Demonstrator availableThe new 9 1/2 pays homage to the 3 1/2 of the 1970s. A brilliant all rounder that can be variously described as a tourer, naked bike or city bike. It seems to do everything briliantly. A powerful 1187 cc engine is mounted in s tubular trellis frame and uses the engine / transmission unit as a stressed member giving great strength and low weight. The low seat height provides a very comfortable riding position for both rider and pillion and makes handling easy in traffic. A very large capacity fuel tank of 20.8 litres gives a long touring range. Brembo brakes provide huge stopping power with semi floating discs and massive 50mm upside down front forks and rear right hand side mounted rear suspension provide taught and responsve handling. The 1187cc 87degree V twin engine produces 117 bhp @ 8500 rpm and massive torque throughout the rev range to give a relaxed but responsive feel with instant power available at any revs in any gear. Riding the 9 1/2 is a revalation. sitting on the bike and taking hold of the handlebars reminds you almost of a supermoto. Fire up the smooth 1200cc Vtwin motor, engage 1st gear and pull away and you are instantly at home as you realise that it is so perfectly balanced and so easy to manouver even at walking pace. Open the throttle and the response is immediate, pulling like a train from low revs and carrying on throughout the range right up to the 8500rpm red line. There is plenty of grip from the Pirelli Phantom tyres which although looking similar to the old phantoms of the 1980s are actually a modern design.
